today, i love to share something with you guys. something my fellow friend learned during our psychology lecture this morning.
the lecture of psychology today is about the defense mechanism. defend from what? it is how we defend or how we handle from frustration or any problem. it is unconscious consist of 4 level. the first 3 level is pathological and the last one is the healthy one.
ok, lets see, which level are we...
level one = psychotic level. this level, we can say that the person, her coping is very weak. what are characters?
1. denial 2. distortion 3. delusional projection.
the example of
denial : a mother denied that is her only son has died.
delusional projection: these is very severe. severe prejudice, severe jealousy, hypervigilance to external danger and extremely suspicious with everyone around him/her which lead to rejection of intimacy.
level two = immature. this we can see normal in children and of course abnormal in adult.
1. Fantasy 2. hypochondrics 3. passive aggression 4. acting out 5. projection
example:
fantasy: a person, a medical student has some problem in his study. so, he start fantasy about his life being a doctor with happy family. simply, it is like daydreaming but more severe.
passive aggression: lets me give u a situation. A and B is best friend. then one day, B betray A. A know about it. another day, they should met at certain place at 3 o'clock. A does not appear. B waited A for three hours under the sun. when B call A, A said that she doesnt remember although she knew.
level three = neurotic . it is only short duration solution.
1. repression 2. reaction formation 3. displacement 4.regression
example
repression: a guy hit a person and cause the death of that person during driving his car. he felt very guilty. he express his guilty by unconsciously he always losses his car keys.
reaction formation: a student study to be a pilot to cover-up being afraid to fly.
displacement: a girl really angry to her teacher. instead of scold to the teacher, she having a fight with someone that close with the teacher.
regression: a wife after quarreling with her husband, she went back to her parents home complaining.
level four = mature . this level is relatively healthy.
1. sublimation 2. altruism 3. suppression 4. anticipitation 5. humour
example:
sublimation: a boy anger at his parents who love his brother more. he try to become best at sport so that his parents will give more attention at him.
altruism: constructive service to others that bring pleasure and personal satisfaction.
suppression:You are vaguely aware of the thought or feeling, but try to hide it."I'm going to try to be nice to him."
anticipitation: a student sacrifice his time by studying harder, because he want a good result.
humour: i give you example in Egypt. although the people is facing with bankruptcy, to forget about this, they still make fun of hosni mobarak and his son.
sorry, i left some points. i just forget the example.
